CP085  Focus on Energy Consumption in Wisconsin, USA Benchmarking
The 'Focus on energy' program of the State of Wisconsin in the USA has sponsored benchmarking research to develop energy consumption guidelines for water and wastewater treatment facilities, storage and distribution systems.

Technical visits were made to selected water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout Wisconsin to establish the processes utilised and the energy consumed by these processes. Key Performance Indicators were used to compare the facilities with each other and with a worldwide 'norm' for facilities of a similar nature.

The research team, Energenecs of Cedarburg Wisconsin, McMahon Associates of Menasha Wisconsin and WRc in the UK, has identified and justified proposed energy guidelines for each unit process.

Benefits

The guidelines produced will be used in design and design review of water and wastewater facilities. These will encourage the use of energy efficient practices to reduce energy consumption and energy costs.
