Methods of predicting serviceability and the long-term capital maintenance requirements of water assets were researched in this study. The research was sponsored by the UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR), as part of a group of projects aimed at developing improved methodologies for capital maintenance planning.
The research, undertaken by WRc, examined a range of serviceability indicators to assess how deterioration might be isolated as a driver of each indicator. The objective was to recommend tools that can be used to forecast the indicator under various levels of activity.
The results from this project were presented to the water industry at a workshop in March 2002.
Guidance to the industry on serviceability indicators for assets will enable improved capital maintenance planning as part of overall asset management planning.
