CP071  Asset Life at Small Wastewater Treatment Works Wastewater Treatment
Substantial expenditure is required to upgrade small wastewater treatment works to meet current standards. Simple process technologies were identified that enabled improvements to works operation for works with below par performance. A range of renovation techniques e.g. spray applied reinforced cementitious coating, steel cable reinforcement, localised repairs and simple process technology is also available to extend the life of assets. With some attention, existing assets can give many years of extra service.

Five water utilities supported this research to develop a methodology to extend the life of assets at small treatment works at minimum cost using a combination of (i) process evaluation techniques, (ii) renovation methods and (iii) simple process technology retrofits.
