NP176  Clamp-on Ultrasonic Flowmeter Performance Demand Management
Sira and WRc worked with the UK Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) and several water utilities to investigate the performance of clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters for industry to use the technology more widely for traceable measurements. The project looked at technology performance applied to water and oil flow in small pipes, 25 and 50 mm diameter, and water flow in pipes larger than 600 mm.

The research examined measurement associated with a range of installation conditions, pipe materials and fluid properties.

A guidance document was produced to meet the needs of the various industries involved.

Benefits

Guidance on the performance and use of clamp-on flowmeters has enabled the technology to be used with confidence and has identified any limitations for equipment use in commercial (traceable) measurements.
